Exchange programmes
Exchange funding is normally arranged through your home university rather than applied for directly, which means your internal deadline and your nomination are what matter. Credit recognition should be settled before you travel, not after you return.

What the funding actually covers
Mobility grants typically pay a monthly contribution towards living costs plus a travel allowance calculated by distance band. Tuition is usually waived at the host through the exchange agreement rather than funded by the grant.
Eligibility patterns to check first
- Nomination by your home institution is normally required before the host will consider you.
- A minimum number of completed credits or semesters is commonly required.
- Grants are often restricted to institutions with an existing bilateral agreement.
- Language requirements are set by the host and can differ from your degree's language.
- Some grants cannot be combined with other mobility funding in the same period.
How the deadlines work
Internal nomination deadlines usually fall four to nine months before the exchange semester begins, and the host's own deadline follows. Missing the internal deadline removes the option entirely.
Application advice for this search
Start with your own international office, not the host university.
Agree credit recognition in writing before departure.
Check whether the grant is compatible with any other funding you hold.
Confirm visa requirements early for short stays, which are not always exempt.
Frequently asked questions
Do I pay tuition at the host university on exchange?
Normally no. Under a bilateral exchange agreement you continue to pay your home institution and the host waives its fees. Free-mover arrangements outside an agreement usually do require host tuition.
Will my exchange credits count towards my degree?
Only if agreed in advance. Get a signed learning agreement listing the host modules and their home equivalents before you travel, because retrospective recognition is much harder to obtain.
