Fully funded UK awards typically cover tuition at the international rate, a monthly stipend set against London or non-London living costs, one return flight and a visa or health-surcharge contribution. Partial awards are usually tuition discounts applied to your invoice, so you should plan living costs separately. Read the funding components on each record rather than the headline label.
UK government awards close between October and November for entry the following September. University scholarship deadlines cluster from January to April and are frequently earlier than the course application deadline. Treat the scholarship deadline as your real deadline and work backwards from it.
Confirm whether the award requires a course offer first; if it does, your course application deadline is effectively months earlier.
Check whether the scholarship is applied for separately or automatically considered from your course application.
For research funding, contact a potential supervisor before the deadline rather than after.
Budget for the Immigration Health Surcharge and visa fee explicitly, as partial awards rarely cover them.
For most government-funded awards, yes: you apply in parallel and must hold an offer by a stated date, usually the following July. For most university scholarships, no: you need at least a conditional offer before the scholarship application is considered.
